Drawing inspiration from the 1678 novel “The Pilgrim’s Progress,” this film serves as a speculative prequel to Bunyan’s classic tale. It follows the story of Vangel, a noble figure who is unwillingly propelled into a quest after being unexpectedly and mysteriously detained. After escaping the clutches of the dark king’s forces, Vangel finds himself injured and disoriented, plagued by enigmatic dreams and visions of a mysterious woman in white beckoning him from the uncharted northern lands. Equipped with “The Record of the Ancients,” a book given to him by a wise elder named Elder, Vangel sets off on a perilous journey. His path leads him through dangerous mountain ranges, endless deserts, the Lake of Doubts, and the Forest of No Return. Throughout his travels, companions he meets speak of a legendary benevolent king and his son residing in the North, should Vangel manage to survive the journey.
