CASUAL+Y, a British medical drama series, is broadcast weekly on BBC One and holds the title of the world’s longest-running emergency medical drama. Conceived by Jeremy Brock and Paul Unwin, it premiered on 6 September 1986 on BBC One in the UK. Geraint Morris was the original producer.
The series is set in the fictional Holby City Hospital, centering on the lives of the staff and patients in the Accident and Emergency Department. Although it shares its setting with the spin-off series Holby City, which started in 1999 and takes place in the same hospital but on a different floor, the two shows have minimal interaction. While there are occasional plot and character crossovers, each series can be enjoyed independently. Casualty has maintained its Saturday evening time slot since the early 1990s.
