In the tranquil and rural village of Metzburgh, once a thriving industrial hub, the community has seen better days since the decline of Metzburgh Grain. Teenagers Mark Lowe (played by Jason John Beebe) and his former girlfriend Lucy Greenheart (portrayed by Sarah Manzella) find themselves embroiled in a personal dispute when a meteorite unexpectedly crashes into their serene town. Glen (Robert Bozek), a former worker at the grain silos who became homeless after the mills shut down, encounters the smoldering meteorite. Unaware of the potential danger, he approaches too closely and is sprayed with a toxic chemical from the meteorite, known as Ombis, which begins transforming his internal organs into a slimy substance. As the infection rapidly spreads, Glen stumbles onto the road, where he is discovered by Mark and Lucy. They rush him to the town’s sole medical professional, Doctor D (Deborah Manzella). Horrified by what they have witnessed, Mark and Lucy quickly alert the local law enforcement, Sheriff Thomas Brackett (Richard Satterwhite).
