Peter and Chloe, a young couple from New York, spontaneously decide to embark on a delayed honeymoon aboard a research ship heading to the frigid expanses of Antarctica. Shortly after the journey begins, Chloe starts to feel overlooked and betrayed by Peter, who is preoccupied with collecting material for an article he intends to write about the work of Roger Payne, a whale biologist and one of their fellow travelers. Following an unforgivable breach of trust by Peter, Chloe disrupts their nascent marriage by moving into her own cabin, asserting her independence on the vessel. The impressionistic narrative highlights the contrasts within us all, shifting between the ship’s cramped interiors and the vast Antarctic wilderness.
