“Made In Romania” follows the journey of a producer who finally gets the opportunity to bring his dream project to life: adapting a little-known yet beautifully crafted Victorian novel, “The Tides of Reason,” into a film. After years of working on low-budget genre movies, he eagerly agrees to the conditions set by his somewhat dubious financiers, which include filming the entire project in Romania to benefit from a complex and somewhat questionable tax incentive. Presented in a documentary style, this behind-the-scenes comedy skillfully reveals the harsh truths of runaway film production. Set in the remote and mysterious countryside of Romania, the production quickly derails as eccentric characters and cultural, economic, and language barriers converge, plunging the project into chaos.
