In 2001, with the backing of a Democratic President and a Republican Congress, China became a member of the World Trade Organization. Almost immediately after this trade agreement was finalized, China began inundating U.S. markets with exports that were illegally subsidized. Meanwhile, the multinational corporations that had strongly advocated for the agreement quickly increased the outsourcing of American jobs to China. As a consequence of what can be described as the largest deception in American history, China has taken millions of jobs from the U.S., corporate profits have skyrocketed, and the U.S. now owes over $3 trillion to this major authoritarian nation. This film explores the events that led to this situation and argues that the most effective job strategy for America involves reforming trade relations with China.
