The Call of the Wild, a 2007 documentary by independent filmmaker Ron Lamothe, chronicles the journey of Christopher McCandless, famously depicted in the book and subsequent film, Into the Wild. McCandless, who referred to himself as an “aesthetic voyager with the road as his home,” met his end on Alaska’s Stampede Trail in August 1992. His demise came after a two-year journey across the country, which saw him travel from Atlanta to Arizona, venture into Mexico, and move from California’s Salton Sea to the bustling streets of Las Vegas and the quiet town of Carthage, South Dakota, among numerous other locations. In the spring of that year, the 24-year-old McCandless headed north to Alaska, where he survived for 113 days in the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley before succumbing to starvation.
