Sixteen-year-old Maddy resides with her ailing grandmother in a dilapidated farmhouse situated along a highway in a remote part of Texas. She diligently tends to her grandmother, who is unable to speak and confined to a wheelchair, but the atmosphere at home is bleak and isolating. Consequently, Maddy, like everyone else within a 20-mile radius, frequents the local roller rink, the sole spot in the area that offers any semblance of life.
