Set in Northern Ireland after the Troubles, “The Truth Commissioner” tells the fictional tale of Henry Stanfield, portrayed by Roger Allam. Stanfield is a seasoned diplomat recently named the Truth Commissioner for Northern Ireland. Driven by a desire to succeed as a mediator, the Prime Minister pushes for a commission inspired by South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation process. However, despite Stanfield’s courageous beginnings, he soon stumbles upon some grim and troublesome truths about the current leaders—truths that those in authority are unwilling to expose.
